FONTVIELLE
Nicknamed the land of mills, where the Château de Montauban is located, this majestic residence was first and foremost a place of rest and inspiration for Alphonse Daudet. He appreciated its serenity and tranquility, and came here, as he himself wrote, to “cure himself of Paris and its fevers”. Behind the handsome late 18th/early 19th-century gabled facade, the museum displays memorabilia in tribute to the world-famous writer: his work desk, his handwritten corrections, first editions of his books, translations of the “Lettres”… And several rooms feature regional themes: traditional Provencal costume, bullfighting and the “course camarguaise”, Fontvieillois santonniers, the Provencal crib…

ALPHONSE DAUDET’S MILL
Alphonse Daudet stayed at the nearby Château de Montauban, but visited the mill from time to time to find inspiration and write the famous “Lettres de mon moulin”.
